Northwest Africa 13734 (NWA 13734)

Algeria

Purchased: 2020

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict)

History: Purchased by Jesper Grønne in 2020 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Monomict breccia composed of microgabbroic eucrite clasts and related crystalline debris in a finer grained matrix. Minerals are exsolved pigeonite (pale orange in thin section), calcic plagioclase (polycrystalline), silica polymorph, Ti-chromite, ilmenite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene (Fs60.1-62.0Wo1.8-3.6, FeO/MnO = 31-35, N = 5), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs26.1-26.7Wo43.8-44.2, FeO/MnO = 30-34, N = 5), plagioclase (An86.9-90.2Or0.4-0.2, N = 4).

Classification: Eucrite (monomict breccia, microgabbroic, shocked).

Specimens: 20.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. J. Grønne.
