(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021 Jan

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in January 2021 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Breccia composed predominantly of mildly-shocked microgabbroic eucrite clasts plus minor related crystalline debris in a sparse fine grained matrix. Major phases are exsolved pigeonite and calcic plagioclase (polycrystalline) together with accessory silica polymorph, chromite, fayalite, ilmenite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene host (Fs59.3-63.2Wo1.7-3.8, FeO/MnO = 28-31, N = 11), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs26.5-37.6Wo39.2-43.4, FeO/MnO = 28-31, N = 8), subcalcic augite (Fs43.5-44.2Wo 34.8-34.9, FeO/MnO = 37-39, N = 2), plagioclase (An88.0-90.3Or0.4-0.6, N = 4).

Classification: Eucrite (monomict breccia, microgabbroic).

Specimens: 23.8 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
