Northwest Africa 14295 (NWA 14295) Niger Purchased: 2019 Sep Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: Purchased by Jesper Grønne in September 2019 from a Moroccan dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Monomict breccia composed of microgabbroic clasts and related debris in a fine grained matrix. Minerals are exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, ilmenite, low-Ti chromite, merrillite, troilite and Ni-free iron metal. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene hosts (Fs59.3-62.2Wo1.6-3.8, FeO/MnO = 31-32, N = 5), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs25.5-26.5Wo44.1-43.1, FeO/MnO = 29-33, N = 5), plagioclase (An83.0-92.3Or0.7-0.2, N = 3). Classification: Eucrite (monomict breccia, microgabbroic). Specimens: 22.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. J. Grønne. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
