Northwest Africa 10548 (NWA 10548)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2009

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated)

History: Purchased by Philip Mani in 2009 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Very fresh specimen with intersertal gabbroic texture (mean grainsize ~1mm). Composed mainly of exsolved pigeonite and calcic plagioclase (bytownite) with accessory silica polymorph, ilmenite, Ti-rich chromite, Ti-Al chromite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene host (Fs56.6-57.5Wo7.2-6.7, FeO/MnO = 30-31, N = 3), high-Ca pyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs29.7-29.8Wo39.5-40.0, FeO/MnO = 31-32, N = 3), plagioclase (An89.5-89.8Or0.3-0.4, N = 2).

Classification: Eucrite (unbrecciated, microgabbroic).

Specimens: 20.28 g including one polished thin section at UWB; main mass with Mr. P. Mani.
