Writeup from MB 108:

Northwest Africa 12276 (NWA 12276)

Algeria

Purchased: 2016 5

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated)

History: Purchased by Miao Bing-an in 2016 from Morocco.

Physical characteristics: The hand specimen is unbrecciated and the dense mineral particles are visible on the surface of the meteorite. In addition, there are some residual black fusion crust locally on the rock surface.

Petrography (B. Miao, C. Zhang, GUT): The rock structure is igneous and unbrecciated. Many types of minerals have been found in this meteorite, such as Low-Ca pyroxene, high-Ca pyroxene, plagioclase, SiO2, metal-Fe, chromite, ilmenite, troilite, rutile and baddeleyite.

Geochemistry (B. Miao, C. Zhang, GUT, EPMA): Low-Ca pyroxene (n=13): Fe/Mn=28.9±0.9, Mg#=37.7±0.8; Fs59.6±1.9Wo4.2±2.1En36.1±0.5. High-Ca pyroxene (n=12): Fe/Mn=29.0±1.8, Mg#=50.9±1.0; Fs28.9±1.1Wo41.1±1.1En30.0±0.3. Plagioclase (n=20): An90.2±0.5Or0.5±0.2Ab9.3±0.4.
