Northwest Africa 13730 (NWA 13730) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Sep Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated) History: Purchased by Habib Naji in September 2020 from a Mauritanian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Diabasic igneous texture with domains of varying grainsize (0.2 to 1.6 mm). Composed predominantly of prismatic grains of exsolved pigeonite and lath-shaped grains of maskelynite together with accessory silica polymorph, ilmenite, chromite and troilite. There is significant dimensional preferred orientation of pyroxene and feldspar grains. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene hosts (Fs55.5-58.0Wo3.2-4.7, FeO/MnO = 31-34, N = 3), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs26.5-28.5Wo42.1-40.8, FeO/MnO = 28-37, N = 3), submicrometer pigeonite lamella (Fs43.5Wo20.8, FeO/MnO = 35), maskelynite (An78.2-88.0Or2.3-0.5, N = 3). Classification: Eucrite (unbrecciated, diabasic, maskelynite-bearing). Specimens: 22.1 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. H. Naji. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
