Northwest Africa 14142 (NWA 14142) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Jun Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated) History: Purchased in Agadir, Morocco by Aziz Habibi in June 2020. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Ophitic texture. Composed predominantly of exsolved pigeonite grains (up to 2 mm) and smaller laths (up to 1 mm) of calcic plagioclase with accessory silica polymorph, ilmenite, Ti-Al chromite, troilite and rare zircon. Some veinlets of secondary calcite are present. Geochemistry: Pigeonite host (Fs59.8-60.8Wo5.2-5.8, FeO/MnO = 30-31, N = 5), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs28.4-29.4Wo42.3-41.9, FeO/MnO = 30-35, N = 5), plagioclase (An79.5-91.4Or1.3-0.3, N = 4). Classification: Eucrite (unbrecciated, ophitic). Specimens: 20.7 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. A. Habibi. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
