Northwest Africa 14561 (NWA 14561) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jul Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated) History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in July 2021 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Relatively coarse grained, unbrecciated assemblage (mean grainsize ~0.8 mm) composed predominantly of equant grains of exsolved pigeonite and anorthite together with accessory silica polymorph, Ti-free V-bearing chromite, troilite, altered kamacite and taenite. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene hosts (Fs41.3-44.2Wo3.7-6.6, FeO/MnO = 24-28, N = 5), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs20.0-22.3Wo39.6-41.6, FeO/MnO = 24-26, N = 4), anorthite (An94.5-95.0Or0.1, N = 3). Classification: Eucrite (unbrecciated, coarse grained). Specimens: 2.2 g in the form of a polished slice at UWB; remainder with WangZ. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
