Northwest Africa 14085 (NWA 14085)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021 Apr

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated)

History: Purchased by Habib Naji in April 2021 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Medium grained, relatively equigranular aggregate (mean grainsize ~500 ┬Ám) composed predominantly of exsolved pigeonite (comprised of subequal amounts of exsolved low-Ca and high-Ca exsolution lamellae) and calcic plagioclase together with accessory silica polymorph, Ti-chromite, ilmenite, troilite and Ni-free Fe metal.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs61.9-62.1Wo2.1-2.8, FeO/MnO = 30-31, N = 4), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs28.8-29.9Wo41.5-42.1, FeO/MnO = 29-31, N = 4), plagioclase (An89.6-90.0Or0.5-0.4, N = 3).

Classification: Eucrite (unbrecciated, microgabbroic).

Specimens: 21.8 g including one polished thin sction at UWB; remainder with Mr. H. Naji.
