Et Tamat 001 17°59’06.0’’N, 0°01’12.0’’W Gao, Mali Find: 2021 Jan Classification: Mesosiderite History: The meteorite was found January 2021 in the Arkach region, eastern Mali, and subsequently purchased by the main mass holders from a local meteorite dealer. Physical characteristics: Many dark-brownish fragments without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a dark brownish to reddish interior and is composed of silicate (about 50 vol%) and heavily altered metallic (about 50 vol%) portions. The silica fraction is predominantly composed of up to 3 mm sized mostly compositionally zoned low-Ca pyroxene and calcic plagioclase. Ca-pyroxene is present as blebby and lamellar exsolutions in low-Ca pyroxene. Minor phases are silica, Ti-chromite, FeS, and Mg-merrillite. The metallic lithology consists mostly of Fe-oxides and hydroxides; only some some taenite grains have been preserved. No olivine has been detected in the section studied. Geochemistry: zoned low-Ca pyroxene: Fs29.7±2.5Wo3.8±0.5 (Fs24.4-32.4Wo2.8-4.5, FeO/MnO=19-28, n=17); augite exsolutions: Fs15.0±0.4Wo40.7±0.8 (Fs16.0-16.8Wo39.2-41.4, FeO/MnO=16-18, n=5); calcic plagioclase: An94.3±0.3 (An93.8-94.6, n=8) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
