Northwest Africa

Purchased: 2009 Jun

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H3.9)

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Well-formed, small (to 0.55 mm) chondrules in a sparse, fine-grained, dark matrix. Minerals are olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, sodic plagioclase, chromite, kamacite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa16.7-18.5, Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine < 0.02 wt.%), orthopyroxene (Fs8.5-23.1Wo0.1-2.9, Fs44.5Wo3.5), clinopyroxene (Fs17.2-19.5Wo36.7-36.3).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H3.9). Subtype estimated to be 3.9 based on undetectable Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine, fine-grained matrix, and narrow range in Fa.
