Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 14070 (NWA 14070)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2020 Nov

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Purchased by Luc Labenne in November 2020 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Relatively small, well-formed equilibrated chondrules (some glass-bearing) are set in a recrystallized matrix containing abundant altered metal (both kamacite and taenite) and accessory troilite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa16.9±0.2, range Fa16.5-17.1, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs15.3±0.1Wo1.0±0.1, range Fs15.1-15.4Wo0.9-1.0, N = 4), augite (Fs4.9±0.1Wo47.1±0.4, range Fs4.8-4.9Wo47.3-46.8, N = 2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H3/4). The presence of glass in some chondrules suggest that this specimen is close to the limit between petrologic types 3 and 4.

Specimens: 20.6 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Labenne.
