Northwest Africa 14123 (NWA 14123)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019 Dec

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in December 2019 from a dealer in Greeley, Colorado, who had obtained the material from a Moroccan source.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed, relatively small equilibrated chondrules are present in a relatively coarse grained, recrystallized matrix containing altered metal, chromite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.0±0.3, range Fa17.6-18.4, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.1±0.3Wo1.2±0.2, range Fs15.8-16.3Wo1.0-1.4, N = 3), augite (Fs5.6±0.4Wo46.0±0.3, range Fs5.3-5.9Wo46.2-45.8, N = 2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4).

Specimens: 29.1 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
