Northwest Africa 14275 (NWA 14275)

Algeria

Purchased: 2020 Apr

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in April 2020 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed, relatively small equilibrated chondrules are set in a fine grained matrix containing kamacite, taenite, troilite, low-Ti chromite and merrillite. Glass is the predominant component in chondrule matrices but minor plagioclase is also present.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.6±0.6, range Fa18.6-20.1, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.7±1.0Wo0.9±0.6, range Fs15.8-18.4Wo0.4-2.0, N = 5), augite (Fs8.3±1.0Wo38.3±2.6, range Fs7.4-9.4Wo40.7-35.5, N = 3).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4).

Specimens: 77.1 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal.
