Northwest Africa 14377 (NWA 14377)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2020

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Puchased by Nicholas Gessler in 2020 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, Brown U.) Well-formed, relatively small chondrules containing devitrified glass are set in a recrystallized matrix containing altered metal, troilite, chromite, chlorapatite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.4±0.1, range Fa18.3-18.6, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.5±0.4Wo1.2±0.6, range Fs16.0-17.1Wo0.8-2.3, N = 6), augite (Fs5.3±0.3Wo45.0±1.8, range Fs5.1-5.5Wo46.2-43.7, N = 2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4).

Specimens: 24.8 g plus one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. N. Gessler.
