Northwest Africa 15043 (NWA 15043)

Purchased: 2022

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4, anomalous)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Algeria.

Physical characteristics: Five dark brownish fragments without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite shows a chondritic texture with abundant partly flattened and partly packed chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 0.4 mm) in a dark brownish matrix with abundant metal and sulfides. Olivine is equilibrated; low-Ca-pyroxene is unequilibrated.

Geochemistry: olivine: Fa13.7±0.3 (Fa13.2-14.0, n=15); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs14.1±3.8Wo0.8±0.7 (Fs9.1-27.4Wo0.2-1.6, n=26)

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4-anomalous). The anomalous designation is based on the exceptionally low Fa content of olivine.
