Northwest Africa 14291 (NWA 14291) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Apr Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5, melt breccia) History: Purchased by Craig Zlimen in April 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) The specimen consists predominantly of a shock-darkened, melt rock lithology but sparse Type 5 lithic clasts are also present. Accessory phases include kamacite, taenite, low-Ti chromite, merrillite and chlorapatite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.4±0.1, range Fa18.3-18.5; Fa16.0; N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.2±0.1Wo1.7±0.1, range Fs16.0-16.3Wo1.6-1.8; Fs17.8Wo1.6; N = 5), augite (Fs6.2±0.2Wo45.2±0.1, range Fs6.0-6.3Wo45.2-45.1, N = 2). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5-melt breccia, clast-poor). Specimens: 24.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. C. Zlimen. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
