Northwest Africa 14234 (NWA 14234) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Jun Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H7) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Talsint, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Two brownish rock without fusion crust. Polished surface shows a brownish mosaic of silicate grains with abundant metal. Petrography: The meteorite exhibits a recrystallized texture with frequent triple junctions between adjoining minerals. Low-Ca pyroxene and feldspar often poikilitically enclose rounded olivine grains. FeNi metal is abundant. Accessory phases include troilite, low-Ti chromite, and merrillite. Grain boundaries are often decorated by iron oxides. No relict chondrules detected. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa17.7±0.1 (Fa17.5-17.9, FeO/MnO=36±2, n=12); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs16.1±0.1Wo3.7±0.4 (Fs15.9-16.3Wo3.2-4.3, FeO/MnO=21±1, n=13); Ca-pyroxene: Fs8.7±0.3Wo40.4±0.5 (Fs8.1-9.0Wo39.9-41.5, FeO/MnO=16±1, n=12); feldspar: An32.8±0.6Ab65.8±0.5Or1.4±0.1, n=12 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
