Northwest Africa 12926 (NWA 12926) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H7) History: Purchased by Mustapha Oulkouch in Morocco from anonymous dealer and sent to Dustin Dickens for classification. Physical characteristics: Single stone with brown, desert weathered, exterior. Saw cut reveals polygonal texture of dark colored silicates and opaques, significant oxidation present. Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) This meteorite has an intergranular texture of olivine and pyroxene, with grain size 50-500 μm, plagioclase grain size up to 100 μm. Oxidized metal and sulfide, numerous oxide veinlets present. No chondrules observed. Geochemistry: (C. Agee, UNM) Olivine Fa18.5±0.2, Fe/Mn=38±2, n=6; low-Ca pyroxene Fs16.6±0.1Wo3.6±0.3, Fe/Mn=23±1, n=6; plagioclase Ab82.6±1.4, n=4. Classification: Ordinary chondrite H7. Type 7 based on absence of chondrules, presence of plagioclase, relatively high wollastonite content of orthopyroxene. Specimens: 8 g including a probe mount on deposit at UNM, Dustin Dickens holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
