Stones, howardites

Type specimen, classification and analysis, J. Otto, Mineralogical Institute, Universitat Freiburg, Albertstrasse 23b, D-7800 Freiburg, Germany. Information and main mass, Swiss Meteorite Laboratory, P. 0. Box 126, CH-8750 Glarus, Switzerland.  Hughes 004, 30°35.11'S, 129°35.20'E, a complete individual of 304 g with shiny fusion crust was found. It has a brecciated structure with mineral and rock fragments, opx Fs32.4-50.7, mean 40.1, Wo2.1-12.8, mean 7.0, cpx Fs45.2-54.5, mean Fs48.3, Wo15.9-22.8, mean Wo18.9, Plagioclase An94.0Ab5.8Or0.2.  Hughes 005, 30°36.16'S, 129°33.91'E, one stone of 284 g was found on the soil rim of a dingo hole, mostly covered by a black, dim crust. The interior texture is very variable, showing different kinds of mineral and rock fragments (eucrites, black glasses, a white anorthosite), opx Fs22.5-55.1, mean Fs41.3, Wo0.8-9.3, mean Wo5.9, cpx Fs41.6-58.9, mean Fs49.3, Wo11.0-40.9, mean Wo20.5, plagioclase An92.6Ab6.9Or0.5. Texture and fusion crust are somewhat different from Hughes 004, but pairing can not be excluded.
