Nova 061


Find: 2017

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H~6)

History: (I. Klümper, Brandlecht) R. Batoschewitz was informed by Ingo Klümper that he discovered a further meteorite on a medow 825 m SW of his first find (52°23.933’N, 7°06.828’E) by metal detector on March 26, 2017.

Physical characteristics: (I. Klümper, R. Bartoschewitz) 5 red-brown fragments totaling 21.5 g that fit together to one nearly complete fragment.

Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) Brown stained strong recrystallized matrix with poor recognizable chondrules (av. 0.4 mm), metal and sulfide is completely oxidized. Fractures filled with carbonate and Fe-hydroxides.

Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.70 and bulk density of 3.35 g/cm³. Sr (B. Hofmann, handhold XRF) of 41 ppm is not consistent with lower Saxony inland dune content, but weathering in desert environment. Zr 11 ppm is about 25% of Nova 060 (B. Hofmann, handhold XRF). Carbonate in fractures, Zr and Sr indicate non-pairing to Nova 060.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H~6, W5)

Specimens: 5.6 g on deposit at Kiel, I. Klümper holds the main mass, and 7 g with Bart.
