DISCOVERY OF THE KIVESVAARA, FINLAND, STONY METEORITE

Name: KIVESVAARA

Place of find: About 1 km SW. of Kivesvaara Hill, 16 km NNW. of Paltamo, Finland.

64°27'N., 27°34'E.

Date of find: May, 1968

Class and type: Stone. Carbonaceous chondrite, type 2 (CII). Olivine Fa0.4-22.9, pyroxene Fs1.5-4.8.

Number of individual

specimens: 2

Total weight: 164 g.

Circumstances of find: Found by Mr. P. Huusko while planting trees. Both specimens are angular fragments and retain some fusion crust.
