Northwest Africa 6326 (NWA 6326)

Purchased: 2010

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L(LL)3)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a Morrocan meteorite dealer on the meteorite fair in Ensisheim, France.

Physical characteristics: Brownish-reddish rock with some fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is a breccia composed of type 3 matrix with well-defined, mostly rounded separated chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 0.7 mm) and up to 5 mm sized melt rock clasts all set into a fine-grained strongly altered reddish matrix that contains sulfides and weathered metal.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite L(LL)3. The strong terrestrial weathering makes it difficult to assign the meteorite positively to the L group based on magnetic susceptibility, hence the L(LL) classification.
