Northwest Africa 12894 (NWA 12894)

Purchased: 2019

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Haichuan Tang from a Moroccan dealer at the mineral show in Chenzhou in May. 2019

Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) Dark yellow stone of 202 g without fusion crust, weathering is very serious

Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) well defined, fractured chondrules (0.3-2 mm, av. 0.7 mm) set in a brown-stained matrix; cracks and vugs are filled with Fe-hydroxides.

Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Olivine Fa23.6±2.3 (n=16); pyroxene Fs13.5±8.6Wo0.7±0.5 (n=9). Taenite; troilite (Ni=0.2-0.8 wt%). Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.43

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3, S2, W4)

Specimens: 32.1 g at Kiel on deposit, Haichuan Tang and Ziyao Wang hold the main mass and 75 g with Bart.
