Northwest Africa 13911 (NWA 13911)

Purchased: 2020 Sep

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

History: Purchased by Shun-Chung Yang and Juan Chen in September 2020 from a dealer in Tindouf, Algeria.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 680±340 µm, N = 24) are set in a fine grained matrix containing kamacite, troilite and taenite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa20.2±11.6, range Fa0.6-35.3, N = 6; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.05-0.20 wt.%, mean 0.10±0.05 wt.%, N = 9), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs12.8±10.1Wo0.6±0.4, range Fs3.1-24.1Wo0.2-1.0, N = 4), pigeonite (Fs11.4Wo6.1), subcalcic augite(Fs41.4Wo24.4), augite (Fs14.5±6.1Wo37.3±2.5, range Fs10.2-18.8Wo35.5-39.1, N = 2). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.69.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3).

Specimens: 27.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C. Yang and Mr. J. Chen.
