Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 14366 (NWA 14366) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Mar Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3) History: Purchased by Philip Mani in March 2021 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed, closely-packed glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 860±290 µm, N = 25) are set in a fine grained matrix containing stained kamacite, taenite and troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa22.5±10.6, range Fa5.1-33.2, N = 7; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.02-0.16 wt.%, mean 0.0±0.03 wt%, N = 31), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs9.9±10.8Wo1.4±1.8, range Fs1.3-24.6Wo0.4-4.1, N = 4), subcalcic augite (Fs2.1Wo35.2; Fs35.8Wo31.1; N = 2). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.64. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3). The range of Cr2O3 contents in ferroan olivine implies a relatively high petrologic subtype. Specimens: 20.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. P. Mani. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
