Northwest Africa 14400 (NWA 14400) Morocco Purchased: Aug 2019 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3) History: Purchased by Sean Tutorow from a dealer in August 2019 in Morocco. Physical characteristics: The type specimen has a rugged and patined surface. The interior has a very dark brown color with cracks. Small chondrules are discerned and sulfides, no metal is preserved. Petrography: (A. Bouvier, UBayr) Heavy alteration of metal, sulfides and partially of silicates with large oxide-rich veins throughtout the surface. Chondrules are well preserved. Geochemistry: (R. Matthäus, UBayr) Olivine 22.3±4.2, Cr2O3=0.05±0.06% (n=30), low-Ca pyroxene Fs18.5±2.3Wo1.2±0.9 (n=7), high-Ca pyroxene Fs11.6±0.5Wo36.5±5.0 (n=2). Classification: L3. Possible sub-type >3.7 based on olivine composition. Specimens: 29.3 g including a polished mount at UBayr. S. Tutorow holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
