Northwest Africa 15028 (NWA 15028)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021 Aug

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in August 2021 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed, unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 1010 ± 730 µm, N = 25) containing devitrified glass are set in a fine grained matrix containing altered kamacite, taenite, troilite, chromite and chlorapatite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa20.9±10.4, range Fa1.0-28.9, N = 12; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.02-0.06 wt.%, N = 10), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs13.6±6.7Wo0.7±0.7, range Fs7.7-24.2Wo0.2-1.8, N = 5). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.69.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3).

Specimens: 32.0 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
