Macroscopic Description: Cecilia Satterwhite One quarter of the exterior is not covered with dull black fusion crust. The black interior matrix contains abundant weathered chondrules. Metal is obvious.
Thin Section (,2) Description: Brian Mason The section shows a close-packed aggregate of chondrules and chondrule fragments, up to 1.5 mm across, in a granular matrix of olivine and pyroxene with small amounts of troilite and nickel-iron. Weathering is moderate, with some limonitic staining and small areas of brown limonite. Microprobe analyses show olivine and pyroxene of variable composition: olivine, Fa2-35, mean Fa15 (CV FeO is 68); pyroxene, Fs1-25. The amount of nickel-iron suggests L group, and the variability of olivine and pyroxene compositions type 3, hence the meteorite is classified as an L3 chondrite (estimated L3.4).
