Northwest Africa 6422 (NWA 6422) Northwest Africa Purchased: 2010 Sep Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3.6) Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Well-formed barred olivine, porphyritic olivine and radial pyroxene chondrules. Minerals are olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, partially altered kamacite, chromite, troilite and taenite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa2.1-41.6; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivines = 0.02-0.06 wt.%, mean 0.05, s.d. 0.02, N = 6), orthopyroxene (Fs3.5-23.7Wo0.5-1.3), clinopyroxene (Fs4.9Wo45.8; Fs18.8Wo39.4). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3.6). Subtype estimated to be 3.6 based on Cr2O3 range in ferroan olivine. Estimation of subtype based on histograms (Fig. 4) in Grossman and Brearley (2005). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
