Northwest Africa 14043 (NWA 14043)

Northwest Africa

Purchased: 2020 Nov

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4/5)

History: Purchased by Shun-Chung Yang and Juan Chen in November 2020 from a dealer in Tindouf, Algeria.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Some well-formed equilibrated chondrules are accompanied by a relatively coarse grained, recrystallized matrix containing stained kamacite, taenite, troilite, merrillite, chlorapatite, low-Ti chromite and sodic plagioclase.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.6±0.1, range Fa25.5-25.8, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs21.6±0.5Wo1.6±0.3, range Fs21.4-22.3Wo1.3-1.9, N = 4), augite (Fs7.7±0.5Wo45.4±0.6, range Fs7.4-8.3Wo44.7-45.9, N = 3).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4/5).

Specimens: 20.9 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C. Yang and Mr. J. Chen.
