Writeup from MB 109:
Northwest Africa 13242 (NWA 13242) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Jun Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4) History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in June 2019 from a Libyan dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Fairly closely-packed, well-formed chondrules (apparent diameter 800±320 µm, N = 22) are set in a sparse matrix containing altered kamacite, pentlandite and ilmenite. A single CAI-like object (0.4 mm across) was observed; it is partially rimmed by kamacite and is composed predominantly of compositionally zoned Cr-pleonaste spinel with minor merrillite, Fe-Ni-bearing phosphate and rare baddeleyite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa23.1±0.9, range Fa22.4-24.6, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs22.6±4.6Wo2.2±2.1, range Fs18.6-29.6Wo0.7-2.1, N = 5), pigeonite (Fs21.4±3.0Wo5.1±0.1, range Fs19.3-23.5Wo5.0-5.2, N = 2; Fs18.9Wo14.0), subcalcic augite (Fs11.8±2.3Wo33.8±4.3, range Fs8.7-14.1Wo30.5-39.9, N = 4). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4). Specimens: 51 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
