Al Qou’a 001 23°25’39.1"N, 55°24’25.6"E United Arab Emirates Find: 2013 Nov Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5) History: (D. Heinlein) In the sand dune area near Al Qou’a town, Mr. Ali Al Ketbi found a heavy rock mostly buried in the soil. Physical characteristics: (D. Heinlein) The mass of the almost rectangular stone block is about 65.9 kg, the dimensions are 55 × 37 × 30 cm. The meteorite’s bulk density is 3.245±0.015 g/cm3. Petrography: (D. Harries, F. Langenhorst) Contains well-defined chondrules with recrystallized mesostasis, secondary feldspar mostly between 2-50 µm, abundant monoclinic low-Ca pyroxene. Shock stage S1. Strongly weathered (W4), most metal is replaced by oxides, troilite preserved. Geochemistry: (D. Harries, F. Langenhorst) The mean composition of olivine is Fa25.2±0.1 (n=15), the mean composition of low-Ca pyroxene is Fs20.8±0.1Wo1.8±0.1 (n=15). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5) Specimens: Type Specimen: 32.4 g including two polished thin sections, UJena; the main mass is with the finder. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
