Northwest Africa 14924 (NWA 14924)

Purchased: 2022 Apr

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L7)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in April 2022 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco.

Petrography: A. Irving, UWS, and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) The specimen has a poikiloblastic texture (mean grainsize ~300 µm) with no preserved chondrule structures. Chadacrysts of olivine are enclosed within larger oikocrysts of low-Ca pyroxene. Accessory phases include sodic plagioclase, stained kamacite, troilite, chromite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa22.6±0.4, range Fa22.0-23.2, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs19.2±0.2Wo3.7±0.2, range Fs19.1-19.5Wo3.5-4.1, N = 5), plagioclase (Ab85.9An7.5Or5.5).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L7).

Specimens: 36.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
