Northeast Africa 022 (NEA 022)

Libya

Purchased: 2020 Aug

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3)

History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in August 2020 from a Libyan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed, very closely-packed glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 890 ± 230 µm, N = 25) are accompanied by very sparse fine grained matrix containing kamacite, taenite, troilite, low-Ti chromite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa22.6±8.6, range Fa1.1-29.0, N = 10; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine <0.05 wt.%), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs25.5±4.7Wo1.2±0.9, range Fs21.5-30.7Wo0.4-2.1, N = 3), pigeonite (Fs37.1Wo7.3), augite (Fs7.1Wo39.4; Fs4.6Wo45.5; N = 2). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.39.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3).

Specimens: 66.3 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal.
