Mali

Purchased: 2020 Jan

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3)

History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in January 2020 from a dealer in Timbuktu, Mali.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Very closely packed, well-formed glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 1510±960 µm, N = 24) are set in a very sparse fine grained matrix. Accessory phases include troilite, kamacite and taenite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa_23.3±12.9, range Fa_4.9-43.8, N = 10; Cr₂O₃ in ferroan olivine <0.09 wt.%), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs_16.6±8.7Wo_2.4±1.8, range Fs_2.6-25.5Wo_0.4-4.9, N = 5), pigeonite (Fs_30.5Wo_16.8), augite (Fs_4.6Wo_37.4), plagioclase in chondrule (An_82.9Or_0.2). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10^-9 m³/kg) = 4.25.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3).

Specimens: 21.6 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal.
