Northwest Africa 5681 (NWA 5681) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2008 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3-6) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Brownish fragment with some fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite is a chondritic breccia consisting of up to 3.5 mm sized LL6 clasts set into LL3 groundmass. Plagioclase grain size in type 6 clasts is about 70 µm. Chondrules in groundmass have a mean diameter of about 0.8 mm. Contains minor sulfides and FeNi metal. Geochemistry: type 3 lithology: olivine: Fa25.7±8.0 (Fa11.4-41.7, n=22); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs20.0±5.6Wo1.9±1.4 (Fs10.5-25.5Wo0.3-4.7, n=15); type 6 lithology: olivine: Fa30.9±0.1, n=5; low-Ca pyroxene: Fs25.1±0.5Wo1.8±0.1, n=5 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
