Northwest Africa 5695 (NWA 5695)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2005

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3-6)

Petrography: The meteorite is a chondritic breccia composed of LL3 to LL6 clasts set into a fine-grained clastic matrix. LL3 and LL4 clasts show perfect chondritic textures with clearly defined chondrules about 1 mm in diameter. Plagioclase grain size in LL5 clasts is about 30 µm and in LL6 clasts about 80 µm.

Geochemistry: Olivine and pyroxene in LL3 clasts are highly unequilibrated with Fa23.8±9.3 (1.0-32.4, n=25) and Fs15.4±6.4Wo1.0±0.7 (Fs1.8-25.1Wo0.2-2.8, n=28). In LL5 and LL6 clasts olivine and pyroxene are equilibrated at Fa29.8±0.4, n=15 and Fs24.4±0.4Wo0.7±0.4, n=27.
