Writeup from MB 111:
Northwest Africa 14756 (NWA 14756) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Mar Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3.15) History: Purchased by Eric Twelker in March 2021 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed, closely packed, unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 1140±1070 µm, N = 27) containing both glass and devitrified glass are set in a fine grained matrix containing stained kamacite, chromite and troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa23.5±11.1, range Fa0.2-78.4, N = 3; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.03-0.48 wt.%, mean 0.18±0.12 wt.%, N = 33), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs9.8±5.1Wo1.1±1.1, range Fs4.2-17.6Wo0.2-3.2, N = 7), pigeonite (Fs23.6Wo15.0), subcalcic augite (Fs11.8Wo31.5). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.82. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3.15). Petrologic subtype based on mean and standard deviation of Cr2O3 contents in ferroan olivine per Figure 15 in Grossman and Brearley (2005). Specimens: 21.9 g plus one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Twelker. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
