Northwest Africa 12950 (NWA 12950)

Purchased: 2016 Sep

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL4)

History: Purchased by Darryl Pitt in September 2016 from a Moroccan dealer at the Denver Show.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed, closely packed equilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 1100±550 µm, N = 22) are set in a sparse finer-grained matrix containing stained metal.

Geochemistry: Olivine, Fa27.1±0.1 (range Fa26.9-27.2, N = 5); low-Ca pyroxene, Fs22.4±0.2Wo1.7±0.2 (range Fs22.2-22.8Wo1.4-2.0, N = 5). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.35.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL4).

Specimens: 20.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with DPitt.
