Northwest Africa 14723 (NWA 14723)

Purchased: 2021 Nov 24

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL4, melt breccia)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Guelmim, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Brownish rock partly covered with fusion crust.

Petrography: Melt supported breccia composed of up to 1 cm sized type LL4 clasts set into abundant recrystallized melt rock. LL4 clasts show a chondritic texture with well recognizable mostly flattened chondrules with an apparent mean diameter of about 0.9 mm. The melt rock contains entrained chondrule and mineral fragments partly with resorption textures as well as characteristic FeNi metal and sulfide spherules.
