Writeup from MB 110:

Calama 174        22°10.78’S, 68°37.15’W

Antofagasta, Chile

Find: 23 Mar 2021

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL6)

Petrography: (C. Lorenz, Vernad) The meteorite has brecciated texture composed by clasts (40 vol.%) and matrix (60 vol.%). The contacts of clasts and matrix are well defined. The clasts comprise coarse-grained (grain size up to 1 mm), intensively recrystallized chondritic rock with single large recrystallized chondrule relics. Olivine, pyroxene and feldspar are main phases, Fe,Ni metal, troilite, chromite and Ca-phosphate are accessories. Feldspar grains are up to 300 µm in size. The matrix is fine-grained (grain size 50-100 µm) equigranular recrystallized rock. Iron hydroxides are widely distributed on the grain contacts and fill the fractures in the meteorite.
