Northwest Africa 14893 (NWA 14893)

Purchased: 2022

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL6, melt breccia)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Algeria.

Physical characteristics: Dark grayish rock without fusion crust.

Petrography: Melt breccia composed of up to 700 µm sized type LL6 fragments set in abundant melt rock matrix. LL6 fragments are strongly recrystallized and contain only few relict chondrules; plagioclase has a grain size of about 70 µm. Melt rock matrix contains abundant entrained and partly resorbed mineral fragments plus FeNi metal and sulfide spherules. No metal or sulfide veins are observed.
