Northwest Africa 12633 (NWA 12633) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite) History: Found in the Sahara by nomads in 2018. Bought in Nouakchott, Mauritania, in 2018 Physical characteristics: Cut surface shows a fine grained, dark-green interior. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Igneous rock with doleritic texture. Main minerals are zoned pyroxene and maskelynite. Other minerals: FeTi oxides, sulfides. Geochemistry: Pyroxene Fs26.0±9.7Wo24.3±12.6, range Fs14.2-43.3, FeO/MnO 38.7±4.8 (n=9). Plagioclase An73.9±1.7Ab25.6±16Or0.5±0.1 (n=9). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.74.
