Northwest Africa 13506 (NWA 13506) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Jul Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite) History: Purchased in July 2020 by Said Yousfi from an Algerian dealer and subsequently sold to Luca Cableri. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) The specimen has a intergranular texture (mean grainsize ~500 µm) and is composed predominantly of prismatic grains of clinopyroxene (consisting of patchily zoned pigeonite and subcalcic augite with ferropigeonite rims) and lath-like grains of maskelynite. Accessory phases include silica polymorph, ulvöspinel, ilmenite, merrillite and pyrrhotite plus minor secondary Fe oxide and barite. Geochemistry: Pigeonite (Fs27.9Wo18.8, FeO/MnO = 28), subcalcic augite (Fs26.3-42.5Wo25.7-33.6, FeO/MnO = 28-35, N = 3), ferropigeonite rims (Fs62.8Wo18.7; Fs82.1Wo11.6; FeO/MnO = 39-40; N = 2), maskelynite (An51.3-53.9Or1.4-1.6, N = 3). Classification: Shergottite (fine-intergranular). Specimens: 20.1 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. L. Cableri. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
