History: Forgotten historical data were evaluated (H. Raab and E. Reiter 2017: Zum 250. Jahrestag des Meteoritenfalles von Mauerkirchen, Oberösterreich. OÖ. Geonachrichten 32, 3-24; and H. Brandstetter and H. Raab 2018: Neue Details zum Fund des Meteoriten von Mauerkirchen, Oberösterreich. OÖ. Geonachrichten 33, 57-62) and new analysis were presented at the 10th German Meteorite Colloquium regarding the 250th anniversary of Mauerkirchen meteorite fall.
(H. Raab, H. Brandstetter, E. Reiter) On Nov. 20. 1768, shortly after 4:00 p.m. local time, people in the area of Mauerkirchen (then part of the Bavarian Inn-Viertel) heard a loud, unusual bang in the air, followed by a whiz and darkening of the air for a short time. The next day, Apollonia Bart, a farmer, discovered a hole on their harvested oat field. From that 75 cm deep hole, she dug out a black stone and provided it to the law court.

Physical characteristics: (H. Raab, H. Brandstetter, E. Reiter) One complete black stone of about 30 × 20 × 15 cm and 21 kg

Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) Strong recrystallized PO, POP, PP and BO chondrules (0.3-5 mm, av. 0.6 mm) are poorly developed in a heavy recrystallized, but non-brecciated matrix.

Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) olivine Fa_23.9±0.3 (n=21); pyroxene Fs_20.3±0.8Wo_1.5±0.2 (n=25); Ca-rich pyroxene En₄₈Fs₈Wo₄₄ (n=1); feldspar An₁₀Ab₈₄ (N=10); chromite CRAL 58.7±0,5, FMM 87.7±0,8. Kamacite Ni 5.7±1.4, Co 0.9 (n=3); taenite Ni 24.0±4.5, Co 0.7 (n=4) (all in wt.%). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10^-9 m³/kg) = 4.81±0.11 (n=19)

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6, S3)

Specimens: Main mass (6950 g) on exhibiton in "Reich der Kristalle", Munich; further major specimens in Göttingen (1580 g), Vienna (417 + 172 g), polished thin section SI.
