Northwest Africa 14093 (NWA 14093)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2016

Classification: Mesosiderite

History: Bought in 2016 by Pierre Bridenne in Erfoud, and sold to Laurent Lodé the same year.

Physical characteristics: Many rusted stones ranging from a few mg to 4 g.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) This rock is composed of a silicate fraction (56 vol%) made of low-Ca pyroxene and plagioclase with typical grain size 600 µm, and contorted multi-mm metal grains (16 vol%) and their weathering products (27 vol%). Kamacite is dominant over taenite. Troilite and silica polymorph are present.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs31.6±2.3Wo6.5±1.3, FeO/MnO = 21.4±1.9 (n=6). Plagioclase An92.3±0.6Ab7.6±0.7Or0.1±0.1 (n=3).

Classification: Mesosiderite

Specimens: 22 g type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Laurent Lodé.
