Northwest Africa 14067 (NWA 14067)

Purchased: 2021 Feb

Classification: Mesosiderite

History: A lot of many identical-appearing stones was purchased from an Algerian dealer in February 2021 by Shun-Chung Yang and Juan Chen.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Aggregate dominated by orthopyroxene with subordinate altered metal (both kamacite and taenite) and anorthite accompanied by accessory silica polymorph, troilite and merrillite. Cross-cutting veinlets of secondary Fe hydroxides are present.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene cores (Fs16.3Wo0.8; Fs25.0-25.8Wo2.5-2.6; FeO/MnO = 28-33; N = 3), low-Ca pyroxene rims (Fs30.8-33.6Wo3.0-4.0, FeO/MnO = 24-30, N = 3), augite (Fs17.1Wo40.1, FeO/MnO = 19), plagioclase (An93.9-94.8Or0.1, N = 2).

Classification: Mesosiderite.

Specimens: 21.4 g including a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C. Yang and Mr. J. Chen.
