Northwest Africa 8266 (NWA 8266) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2014 Jan Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: Purchased by F. Kuntz in January 2014 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Clasts of basaltic eucrite and related crystalline debris are set in a dark matrix. Minerals are exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, fayalitic olivine, ilmenite and troilite. Geochemistry: Host orthopyroxene (Fs59.5-60.8Wo3.0-2.6, FeO/MnO = 29), clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs26.7-26.8Wo42.7-42.8, FeO/MnO = 27-31), olivine (Fa77.0-80.1, FeO/MnO = 39). Classification: Eucrite, monomict breccia. Specimens: 20.8 g including a polished thin section at UWB. The remainder is held by Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
