Macroscopic Description: Cecilia Satterwhite
80% of the exterior of this meteorite has black fractured fusion crust. The interior is a fine grained gray matrix with some oxidation. Light gray and white mm sized inclusions are visible.

The section consists of well-defined (up to 1 mm) chondrules in a matrix of finer-grained silicates, sulfides and very abundant magnetite. The meteorite is little weathered, but extensively shock blackened. Olivine is Fa4-42, with most grains Fa30-40, and orthopyroxene is Fs11-20. The meteorite is a CK3 chondrite.

Found: 2003

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3)

History: reclassification (announced vol. 29, no. 1): This sample was originally classified as a CK3 chondrite, but chemical analyses reveal that it (as well as MET 01149 which we reclassified a few years ago) is very close in composition (Zn/Mn vs. Al/Mn) to many other R chondrites (Isa, M. et al., 2011, LPSC abstract #1876). This information, together with the observation that there is abundant sulfide, but little to no magnetite has led us to reclassify this sample as an R3 chondrite.
